QPR underlined the Jekyll and Hyde nature of their season once more as they overcame promotion hopefuls Derby at Loftus Road.

Tjaronn Chery and Gabriele Angella were the men on target in a 2-0 win in stark contrast to the inept in defeat at struggling MK Dons just three days earlier.

Here are some of the talking points from west London as Hoops moved nine points shy of the play-offs.

Back to a good big ‘un and a good little ‘un

Hasselbaink’s pre-match mantra was of the need to get back to the good habits of the last home win over Birmingham and he backed that up by restoring Sebastian Polter up front with Tjaronn Chery.

Sebastian Polter.

Polter bravely led the line with Chery dropping into pockets between them and scoring a sumptuous goal suggestine signs of a partnership beginning to blossom.

Hasselbaink has been a self-confessed ‘Horses for courses’ man so far in his tenure, but that approach has produced neither consistency of performance or results. Is it time for less tinkering?

A familiar second half retreat

As against Birmingham Rangers largely retreated into their shell after the break.

The tactic paid off in that victory was secured, but was the tactic forced upon them by a largely disappointing Derby or was it deliberately adopted?

If the latter does it betray a lack of confidence to take a game by the scruff of the neck

A salute for an old warhorse

With Grant Hall ruled out after failing a fitness test it was veteran Clint Hill who once again answered the call to arms.

In his first start of 2016 the 37-year-old proved as dependable as ever, a reassuring presence alongside Angella at the heart of the hoops’ rear-guard.

Oh for consistency

For the second match in a row Rangers more than matched and overcame a playoff candidate, yet in between were wretched against relegation-haunted MK Dons.

Junior Hoilett.

Hasselbaink’s men gave their manager the reaction he wanted, but can they replicate it in the heat of Saturday’s London derby with Brentford.

A song for a former hoop

Despite the striking heroics of Polter and Chery some of the loudest chants were for the since departed Bobby Zamora, hero of the Championship playoff victory over the Rams in 2014.

Always nice to hear a bit of friendly or not so friendly banter, but does it underline the need for greater heroes in the class of 2016?
