Cometh the hour, cometh Matt Phillips at the back post to head the winner two minutes from time.

The telling cross from sub Nasser El Khayati on his debut was just about what Rs deserved as they did most of the huffing and puffing that added to the fierce wind.

Even so, Rs were indebted to a great save from Alex Smithies before that from Freddie Sears.

Couple that to a terrific tackle from Paul Konchesky a second before, and Rs held out to set up a first three home points for boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

Sears had a second go from close in at the end, and the mother of all scrambles in the final throes brought another terrific stop from the in form keeper as Ipswich through the kitchen sink at trying to rescue a point.

Up till then, a lack lustre second half had Conor Washington twisting and turning but firing over on 69 minutes for Rs only previous chance after an eventful first period.

The ball seemed stuck to Junior Holiett in a one-way first half.

All Rangers chances came and went through the Rs winger - but the best was a woeful miss from three yards.

A low centre evaded everybody to reach Hoilett at the back post who chested down and seemed to freeze before stabbing into the chest of Bialkowski.

Another drive from distance and a third as he cut in from the left were also fisted away by the busy Town keeper.

James Perch was close with a close shot into the side netting at the near post from Phillips' centre. And the same Rs player provided an even earlier opportunity spurned when his drive across goal was half stopped by Bialkowski who recovered quickly to save the follow-up from Mass Luongo.

Ipswich were rarely in the Rs half, until the final four minutes when they never left it. Thanks to Rangers' defence and Smithies they leave Loftus Road empty handed.
