Cairney and Chris Martin have been called up to the Scotland squad for their international matches; a friendly against Canada and a World Cup qualifier against Slovenia.
The former Blackburn man could make his debut for the Tartan Army and, while the call up has ruined Jokanovic's probable plans to wrap his talisman up in cotton wool for the duration of the international break, he knows that it is a just reward for his fine form.
The Serbian said: “He absolutely deserves it. We're really happy for him.
“We'll have less time to rest him but he has to be satisfied as it's some compensation for his team and himself. They are doing very well. He deserved his call up.”
Cairney will be in action for Fulham on Tuesday night when they take on struggling Blackburn.
A win for the Whites will lift them into the play-off spots for the first time since September but a point for Rovers will raise them out of the drop zone.
