Match winner Matt Phillips was praised by QPR assistant manager Kevin Bond for shooting down former side Blackpool yesterday.

THE QPR winger scored the first before setting up the second for Charlie Austin as the Rs went back to the top of the Championship table with a 2-0 win at Bloomfield Road.

And Bond believes Phillips is starting to fire on all cylinders following a difficult start to his career at Loftus Road.

He said: “When he came to us he had broken his arm and struggled to get enough work done in pre-season. He wasn't able to join in and then got another injury, so it was very stop start.

“Hasn't been able to get involved regularly but we have seen glimpses. He got a goal the other night and did two or three things today. He grabbed a goal, albeit with a deflection, but the cross for the second goal was superb.”

Bond insisted, however, it was a good all round team performance, and that his side showed signs of being real promotion candidates.

He added: “I think those are the sort of performances, when you come away to teams like Blackpool who have kept six clean sheets at home this season, and we know how difficult it is to come here. “Our keeper and defenders had to keep forcing the game as we knew it would be difficult for us. They did just that, and in second half we were able to keep the ball down and play it in difficult conditions.

“We haven't been as creative as we would have liked, but we've managed to keep a fair number of clean sheets.”
