Peter Dean produced a fairy-tale ending to Wealdstone’s title-winning season in Saturday's 2-0 win over Canvey Island that even Aladdin’s genie would have struggled to script

The Stones stalwart, who briefly left the club for St Albans earlier in the campaign, rose from the bench to seal victory over Canvey Island and provide the perfect prelude to the after match trophy presentation on an emotional day at the Vale.

It was Dean’s first league goal since August, prompting delirious scenes in the Bullar Stand at the end of an astonishing encounter – run of the mill end of season this was not.

The woodwork will be pleading for time off for good behaviour after being struck seven times – four times by the visitors - in a pulsating 90 minutes which remarkably remained goalless until nine minutes from time.

Two other efforts, one at each end were cleared off the line before Charlie Penny broke the deadlock, paving the way for Dean’s magical moment.

Incredible scenes followed as Gordon Bartlett and his boys finally got their hands on that elusive piece of silverware.
