QPR were near but no cigar in a thriller against Liverpool that brought two goals in injury time - one apiece.

Rs thought they had rescued a point when Eduardo Vargas bundled the ball over the line from a header. In fact, the World Cup striker got a literal kick in the teeth as he threw his head at an attempted winner seconds later.

The metaphorical one followed moments after that when Liverpool hit on the counter for the umpteenth time much to the chagrin of boss Harry Redknapp, and a cross from Raheem Sterling caught the fast retreating Steven Caulker for an own goal and misery.

Vargas cancelled out Richard Dunne’s first own goal in the 87th minute. Rs hit the frame twice through Leroy Fer, had two efforts bundled off the line, but saw Philippe Coutinho fire past Rs debut keeper Alex McCarthy to seemingly seal the points, but there were still two more goals to come in a truly wonderful finale.

The PS, however, still leaves Rangers propping up the rest of the Premier League.
