Chelsea’s patchy form continued with a disappointing 2-1 defeat on Jose Mourinho’s return to former club Porto on Tuesday night.

Andre Andre opened the scoring at the Estadio do Dragao before Willian’s brilliant free-kick levelled things up right on the stroke of half-time.

But the Premier League champions looked all at sea defensively in the second period and one particular lapse allowed Maicon to nip in at the near post and secure victory for the hosts.

Mourinho said: “I got the performance. If I forget two ridiculous mistakes, one for the second goal and one almost for the third goal, two set pieces that we study.

“Those were unacceptable mistakes. Apart from that, the team was in the game. Good reactions to both goals conceded.”

Mourinho’s Chelsea return to Premier League action this weekend when Southampton are the visitors to Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.
