A mostly shambolic Chelsea had a rude New Year awakening when they were well trounced by a rampant Spurs and plenty of their own failings.

White Hart Lane, usually a happy hunting ground for the Blues, became the stuff of nightmares as Jose Mourinho's side shipped five goals in a game where they seldom looked like challenging for the points.

The only saving grace was three goals in return, each in its own way against the run of play, which still keeps them top of the Premier League – though now only ahead of Manchester City by the slimmest of margins.
