Powerhouse striker Adebayo Akinfenwa scored twice and missed a penalty as AFC Wimbledon continued their unbeaten run at Newport County.

The Beast gave the Dons the lead in the 11th minute when he powered home a header from Sean Rigg's cross.

He had the chance to double the lead 10 minutes into the second half after Kevin Feely brought down George Francomb in the box and was sent off for a professional foul.

Akinfenwa stepped up but his effort was saved by Joe Day, however he made up for it with 19 minutes left when he finished off a well-worked move.

Boss Neal Ardley said: “Strikers don’t mean to miss goals and Adebayo gave a solid performance today and he always puts in a shift.

“Akinfenwa and Matt Tubbs are two that we signed and have been a part of 39 of our 40 goals we’ve scored this season, and when I say that I mean assisted or scored in, that is a huge achievement.”
