Semi Ajayi is enjoying the physical challenge of League Two after his first win in AFC Wimbledon colours.

The defender joined the club on loan from Cardiff after making a permanent move to Wales from Arsenal earlier in the summer.

And the centre-back says English football’s fourth tier is exactly what he expected it to be.

The 21-year-old said: “I wasn’t really surprised, I’m enjoying it.

“It’s exactly what I expected. It’s direct, physical and aggressive, but to be fair you’ve got to do the basics well in any league.

“It’s good for me and it’s good for my future.”

Ajayi played a leading role as the Dons beat Barnet 2-0 at Kingsmeadow last weekend.

Having been part of a Champions League side for the best part of two years, Ajayi is no stranger to high expectations.

And the former Gunner believes that he is the right man to help propel Neal Ardley’s side up the league table.

He added: “I think we’ve got a strong squad ourselves, it’s a good chance to put a marker down and show people what we’re really about.

“We’ve got a really good squad, a strong bench, we’ve got good players, and everyone is pulling in the right direction.

“All the lads have got a really good attitude and want to do well for the club, so I don’t see why we can’t be pushing for the top six.”
