Burton Albion 0-0 AFC Wimbledon

Mark Phillips was sent off but AFC Wimbledon held on to pick up a crucial point against League Two leaders Burton.

The defender was dismissed for what appeared to be a stamp on Stuart Beavon with 25 minutes remaining.

But the resilient Dons stood firm and are five points off the play-offs with a game in hand on their rivals.

The league leaders exerted their dominance from the off, with Lucas Akins giving the Dons defence a hard time, but their poor final delivery meant they were unable to seriously test James Shea.

However the Dons started to find their feet and Alfie Potter’s snap-shot from six yards forced Jon McLaughlin in the Burton goal to save with his legs.

The Brewers continued to put the pressure on in the first half but the visiting defence held firm, despite conceding seven corners in the first half.

Phillips was dismissed with 25 minutes remaining after an off-the-ball incident with Stuart Beavon and the defender was furious with Seb Stockbridge’s decision before he was ushered off the pitch.

Sammy Moore went to right back with Barry Fuller moving into the central of the Dons’ defence.

Burton might lead the league but were unable to break the organised Wimbledon down with Beavons having the best chance but fired wide when well placed.
