Alan Bennett hopes he can bring his new centre-back partner Jamie Wilson out of his shell.
The pair, both on loan for a month from Reading and Bristol City, kept Brentford's first clean sheet of the season on Saturday in the Bees' 4-0 win over Grimsby.
They also kept new signing Mark Phillips out of the side against the Mariners, and 19-year-old Wilson in particular has been earning rave reviews.
Bennett said: "James is a little bit quiet, but he'll come out of himself, and he's great on the ball.
"We have a good balance as he likes playing on the right, and I don't mind playing on the left, which showed with the clean sheet.
"When you lose, like we did at Bury and Swansea, it leaves you itching for a win, so we let all our frustrations loose on Grimsby."
