Brentford boss Mark Warburton has revealed a midweek pep talk helped Andre Gray end his goal drought.

The former Luton frontman found the net for the first time in nine games as the Bees stunned league leaders Derby thanks to a last-gasp winner from Stuart Dallas.

“He’s a striker – they all want to score goals,” said Warburton after the 2-1 victory against the Rams.

“He was beating himself up in the week, so we pulled him in and had a private chat.

“He was playing Conference football last season and has done exceptionally well. He’s played more minutes than he could’ve imagined.

Back to his best: A pep talk with his gaffer seems to have done Gray the world of good

“His fitness levels have improved dramatically because when he first came to Florida he was blowing. He’s playing well enough to justify his starting spot.”

Brentford trailed to Chris Martin’s opener as the Rams deservedly led at the break.

However, Gray hauled them level before Dallas climbed off the bench to snatch the points at the death,

Warburton added: “It was a great win. Hopefully that result sends out some loud noises.”
