Reading youngster Craig Tanner says he wouldn't have joined AFC Wimbledon on loan this month if he didn't think the club could make the League Two play-offs.

Tanner has played five times for the Royals since being promoted from the club's youth system but has moved to Kingsmeadow in search of regular first-team action.

He made his debut at the weekend as the Dons beat Accrington Stanley 2-1 and Tanner had a hand in Sean Rigg's opener before coming off in the second period.

But the striker sees himself as an ambitious person and is looking to leave his mark on what could be a productive second half of the season for the Dons.

Tanner said: “I believe we can get into the play-offs. I am an ambitious person and I wouldn’t come here if I didn’t think it was possible.

“I think we have the quality and the right set of players to push on and really challenge for a place, but to be honest as soon as I got the opportunity to come here on-loan I gobbled it up with two hands.”

Faith: Neal Ardley rates Craig Tanner highly

Tanner remains at Wimbledon until the end of the season.

Considering the youngster has only taken part in one training session, he still featured for 72 minutes against Accy before being replaced by another new signing, David Connolly.

The youngster believes he has so much more to prove and wants to show Reading he is capable of delivering at all levels.

He added: “I’ve only had one training session with the club so far and it was about adapting to how the club plays and I’m flexible in delivering for the team.

“This loan will do me good stead but it is a completely different league and I have only been here for a few days so I’m still learning the trade.”

Next up for Neal Ardley’s men is an away tie against Morecambe, who sit one place above the West London side in 11th.
