QPR manager Harry Redknapp probably struck referee Chris Foy and his assistant Harry Lennard off his Christmas card list following West Brom’s last Premier League visit to Loftus Road on Boxing Day in 2012.

With the turkey still digesting from the day before, Redknapp found it difficult to stomach a pair of controversial decisions which he blamed for sending the Hoops to the bottom of the English top-flight that day.

Chris Brunt had given the Baggies the lead with a fine strike but it was WBA’s second goal of the afternoon that turned Redknapp as red as rudolph’s nose as Rob Green inadvertently turned into his own net.

However, the QPR goalkeeper was given more than a slight helping hand by Marc-Antoine Fortuné as the forward backed into Green and edged him into his own net, taking the ball with him to make it 2-0.

"How can a goalkeeper play the ball when the fella is backing into him?" Redknapp asked reporters afterwards.

"Someone said Rob should have pushed him over, but he would have given a penalty then. Fortuné had no intention of playing the ball. He just wanted to stop Green getting to the ball, and that's obstruction."

Frustrated: Djibril Cisse

Former Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse’s dinked finish gave Rangers hope of salvaging a point, although those hopes were dashed as the Frenchman saw a late header blocked by Liam Ridgewell - in violation of the rules according to Redknapp.

"I asked the linesman how he didn't see that penalty,” he raged.

“It was the most blatant handball you could wish to see but he said it was murky down there in that corner and he couldn't make it out.

"Maybe he should go to Specsavers. I thought they were both awful decisions. Scandalous decisions."

Before this 2-1 defeat, the last time QPR and Albion had met on Boxing Day was in the 1968-9 season. West Brom won 4-0 at Loftus Road on that day and Rangers went on to be relegated from the top flight.

History would repeat itself under Redknapp as he was unable to save QPR from beating the drop having taken over from Mark Hughes. QPR fans will be hoping for an early Christmas present ahead of this weekend’s clash with the Baggies.
