Nico Yennaris insists that being given a chance, rather than technical improvement, has been the key to the resurrection of his Brentford career this season.

After just 11 appearances and a loan spell at League Two side Wycombe over the past two seasons, the exit door looked a likely prospect, but the arrival of interim head coach Lee Carsley in September gave the former Arsenal youngster his first real chance in red and white.

And Yennaris, who impressed enough to be offered a new three-year deal in February, says that confidence in his own ability shone through - and now he is reaping the rewards.

He told GetWestLondon, “Whether people think I’ve improved or not, it’s just being given a chance really – I think I've taken my chance and I’m getting a good run of games.

“I’ve always believed in myself. I know my strengths and what I can do on the pitch, but getting a run of games always helps to raise your confidence and it gives you a chance to get your form together”.

Another player who has seen his Brentford career finally start to take shape this season is Scott Hogan, and Yennaris was quick to praise the striker after his stellar substitute display in the win against Cardiff City on Tuesday.

He said, “I really am delighted for Scotty. He’s had a tough two years and it’s great to see him back out on the pitch and amongst the goals now.

“He works his socks off in training day-in day-out and it’s all looking upwards for him after this past week.

“Obviously we are missing Judgey – everyone knows the quality he brings to the team. But I think Scotty and the boys that have stepped in have done really well, slotted straight into the team and now hopefully we can keep this run going”.
