QPR remain in pole position to land Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink as their new boss despite the Burton manager’s insistence he is yet to receive an official approach.

The Dutchman is preparing his Brewers for a clash with Millwall tonight and GetWestLondon understands it could be his final match in charge at the Pirelli Stadium.

Tony Fernandes has been impressed with the way the former Chelsea man has gone about his business at Albion and led the club to promotion from League Two last season.

He has made the step up in class with ease and will sit top of the pile in League One if his side can beat the Lions this evening under the floodlights in Staffordshire.

Betting has been suspended on who will succeed Chris Ramsey, who was sacked last month, and the net appears to be closing in on Hasselbaink as the R’s prepare to face Reading on Thursday night.

Hasselbaink last night admitted the speculation surrounding the vacant Loftus Road hotseat was making life difficult for him as he continues to push Albion towards the summit.

He said: "I don't want to be part of the speculation. As soon as I'm part of it myself, I'm taking stuff away from my boys.

Leading the search for a new boss: Les Ferdinand

"Don't get me wrong, it's not easy because everyone is talking about it and I'm being asked, it's not easy. I have to get on with my job and get on with Burton Albion – that's what I'm doing.

"I've got no other choice (than to ignore the rumours). That's the thing I can control, the thing that I have and I've got no other choice."

Neil Warnock remains in caretaker charge at QPR as the search continues for a permanent successor to the axed Ramsey.

Despite suggestions a new manager could be appointed in time for Thursday’s trip to Reading, it is anticipated the interim boss will be in the dugout at the Madejski Stadium.

He added: “We're looking forward to the Reading game, but I can't tell you what will happen before then.

"I've not been involved in the process, and I'm sure when there's something to tell me the owners will do so. At the moment I'm just trying to get smiles on people's faces.

"The Championship is a unique league, unlike any other league, but I'm sure they'll have taken quite a lot of things into consideration when looking for someone."

Chris Ramsey's QPR career timeline:

His second, though, was much more positive as Rangers recorded victory on Wearside thanks to goals from Leroy Fer and Bobby Zamora.

QPR confirmed Ramsey would be in place until the end of the season.

  5. March 14

    Crystal Palace 3-1 QPR

Rangers were in a run of five straight defeats and there was none more worse than at Selhurst Parka as three first-half goals condemned QPR to a defeat, despite Matt Phillips' fine strike.

  6. April 4

    West Brom 1-4 QPR

The Rs were able to enjoy a day in the sun as Eduardo Vargas, Charlie Austin and Bobby Zamora scored first half goals at The Hawthorns. Victor Anichebe pulled one back but Youssouf Mulumbu's red card, followed by Joey Barton's goal sealed the win.

  7. April 7

    Aston Villa 3-3 QPR

QPR were seven minutes away from back to back victories at Villa Park but Christian Benteke inspired Tim Sherwood's side to an equaliser.

Matt Phillips gave Rangers the lead before the Belgian equalised and put Villa ahead at the break. Clint Hill levelled the scores before Charlie Austin made it 3-2. Benteke, though, completed his hat-trick to cost QPR two points.

  8. May 10

    Manchester City 6-0 QPR

Rangers were relegated after they were thrashed at the Etihad Stadium. Sergio Aguero blasted a hat-trick with Aleksandar Kolarov, James Milner and David Silva all getting on the scoresheet.

Rangers were knocked out of a cup competition by a lower ranked opponent once again as the Cumbrians celebrated victory at Loftus Road.

  11. September 25

QPR produced a dreadful performance as west London rivals Fulham ran rampant. Moussa Dembele, Ben Pringle and Ross McCormack scored first-half goals to seal the win before the latter made it four.

  12. October 17

    Warnock returns

Neil Warnock was brought back to the club as an adviser to the head coach. Rangers followed up with a defeat at Birmingham City.

  13. October 24

    QPR 3-0 MK Dons

Ramsey secured his last win as head coach but it needed a late show from his side. Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, Matt Phillips and Junior Hoilett all scored inside the last 20 minutes.

  14. October 30

    Brentford 1-0 QPR

To lose one west London derby may be unfortunate, to lose your second in the space of five weeks is carelessness. Marco Djuricin scored the goal to separate the two sides.

  15. November 3

    Derby 1-0 QPR

Chris Martin's goal was enough to separate the two sides and end Ramsey's reign at Loftus Road.

    Sacked!

QPR announce they have parted company with Ramsey and have placed Neil Warnock in temporary charge.
