Skipper Adam Newton reckons his new Brentford FC side has the potential to make opponents sit up in their seats and take notice.Newton was part of the Peterborough team which that finished runners-up in League Two last season.

And the right-back believes Andy Scott's Brentford can be as good as Posh's promotion-winning side.

Bees fans don't need reminding just how good that Peterborogh side were - they thrashed Brentford 7-0 at London Road last November.

Newton said: "There's definitely as much potential here as there was at Peterborough. We've got a young, talented squad.

"We're probably a bit less experienced, but we're a tight unit that will do well together."

Some fans were lamenting the loss of striker Alan Connell, who left for Bournemouth last week, as the Bees failed to break down a resolute Rotherham side.

But Newton insists the Bees still have enough firepower to keep them in the hunt, despite Connell's departure.

"I still believe we have enough up front," he said.

"We've got a lot of hope for Charlie (MacDonald) and Nathan (Elder). They're a new partnership, but they showed against Grimsby they can finish if we're performing well.

"We've got Marvin Williams who can play up there as well, plus Moses (Ademola), so there's strength in depth.

"There's competition for places, and that's what having a big squad is all about."
