QPR would be stronger for signing Steven Taylor reckons former Newcastle team-mate Danny Simpson – and he should know.
The right-back played with the Hoops target for more than four years and insists Taylor would be a great loan capture if not a £2million permanent deal in the January transfer window.
The United player is currently out of favour at St James’s Park – just as Simpson was in the summer.
Rs boss Harry Redknapp is worried the veteran look of his defence might creak a bit in the second half of the season, and while getting Taylor might be an ask, Simpson has fingers crossed.
He said: “I do know Steven, and he’s a top lad, and we had a good relationship when I was at Newcastle so if I’m asked what I think (by the management) I can’t speak too highly of him.”
Simpson insists a step down to the Championship has only been good for him – and he regrets not a second of the switch.
He added: “The reason I left Newcastle was because they told me I wasn’t going to play.
“I wasn’t prepared to do that. I wanted to play football and wanted to be part of getting the club back into the Premiership.
“The last six months at Newcastle was tough and I don’t want to be on a bench. I’m enjoying the football and I want to play on a Saturday afternoon.”
