Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink knows it is a risk taking charge at QPR but it is one he is prepared to take.

The Dutchman was appointed as Rangers’ new manager after leaving League One table toppers Burton Albion.

The Rs have had five managers in the last five years and are demanding a promotion push this season, meaning Hasselbaink will have to hit the ground running.

And the former Chelsea striker is well aware of what the consequences of failing to do so are but is prepared to test his management skills in the Championship.

He said: “Is it a risk? There’s always risk but it was a risk to take for me and one I want to take.

“It’s a club that is going to go in a different direction and a club that is changing a bit and I want to be a part of it. It’s exciting times and I’m privileged to be the one to lead them to those exciting times.”

Hasselbaink will have to adapt to a more unstable club after spending just over a year with Burton.

The Brewers have been on an upward trajectory in the past few years, while QPR have been fluctuating and the Dutchman knows it will take some getting used to.

He said: “There will be things coming at me that I will have to adjust but that’s how it is. We need to work together and get stability.

“It’s very important we get stability and get the foundation and go in the right direction.”

QPR are likely to make changes to their squad in January but Hasselbaink is more focused on getting the right structure in place.

He added: “Players will always come and go whatever you do. That happens at every football club. QPR is no different.

“The player and the club will always be here and it will be as strong as ever. That’s how it is.

“What you can do is make a way of working and putting a platform down for the ones who are going to come in and slot in straight away.

“That’s how it is. I’m not someone who can stop people going. Eventually people are going to come and people are going to go.”
