Chelsea's Spanish midfielder Oriol Romeu has signed a new contract.

The 22-year-old has penned a three-year deal to keep him at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2017.

Romeu spent last season on loan at Valencia in La Liga but has been training at Cobham this week and featured in last night’s 5-0 win over Wycombe Wanderers.

He played over 70 minutes against the Chairboys and was pleased to be back wearing the Chelsea shirt again.

Romeu said: “I felt good, I was tired at the end of the game but that’s normal after a long summer and a big rest. When you come back to play it's difficult but we played well, it was a good victory.

“We scored five goals and didn’t concede any so that’s the main thing and we have to carry on. Even if it’s a friendly game you have to take it seriously, as if it’s for real, and that’s what we did."

Romeu joined the Blues from Barcelona in the summer of 2011 and made his debut for the club in a 2-1 away win at Sunderland.
