Should QPR boss Ian Holloway take a leaf out of the Antonio Conte school of coaching his club captain for one won’t be quaking in his boots.

Holloway has hinted he could follow the example of the new Chelsea boss in employing the 3-4-3 formation adopted by the Italian to devastating effect in recent weeks.

The Blues have won six of six, all without conceding a goal since reverting to the system dependent on deploying three centre-backs and two wing-backs.

QPR skipper Nedum Onuoha expressed the view Rangers too have resources at their disposal to make it work.

“We have got four senior centre-backs who can all play anywhere in that three and we have got the wing-backs too whether they are defensive minded or attack-minded,” he said.

Press conference for the appointment of new manager Ian Holloway and his Assistant Manager Marc Bircham at Queens Park Rangers Football Club at Loftus Road.

“We have got so many midfielders too, so it could be perfect for us. We will have to work on it and see if it turns out to be what we go for.”

Onuoha is no stranger to a system which has left Conte’s counterparts in the opposition dugout, Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho and Everton’s Ronald Koeman included, scratching their heads in bewilderment.

The experienced defender played the formation many times under Roberto Mancini while at Manchester City.

Onouha revealed his former boss used the tactic in situations when City had their backs to the wall.

However, he suspects should his current gaffer decide to take the leap of faith it will be as a first thought laced with attacking intent, as briefly witnessed in Saturday’s 2-1 win over 10-man Norwich, rather than Mancini’s last resort.

“3-4-3 was Roberto Mancini’s safety net if a game was ever going in a direction he didn’t like,” he added.

“He would throw the three at the back to be secure while still keeping an attacking intent as well.

“I can’t see our manager using it as a defence mechanism at all though.

“It is a way to guarantee at least two strikers up front. When we started the game with Norwich we had two strikers and a number 10 (Tjaronn Chery) playing and that was because we had three at the back whereas, with a full four you can’t really do that can you.”
