Neal Ardley has told his AFC Wimbledon players what he expects from them in the second half of the season.

The Dons currently lie 11th in League Two after back-to-back victories, and have not suffered defeat since a 2-1 defeat at home to Stevenage at the start of December.

Ardley's men are pushing for play-off contention, and lie just three points off 7th-place Accrington Stanley, although Stanley have three games in hand.

And the manager has issued mid-term evaluations to each of his players as he tries to get the best out of them for the remainder of the season.

"It’s a really good thing to do and I’ve done them every year. People walk out of their under no illusions about what they need to do to improve. I think it serves us well," he told Dons Player.

"Reevesy (Alan Reeves) has his own ones as well but I’ve done all the first-team players and I will do the U21s too.

Wimbledon are trying to install a winning mentality throughout the DNA of the club, with their U18s tasting FA Youth Cup success against Newcastle United earlier this month.

Louie Cockle and George Marchant both scored to boost Wimbledon to a 2-1 victory over United's U18s at St James' Park to progress to the fifth round of the cup.

And Ardley insists that while the success provided a glimpse of the future, there is still plenty of improvement to be made.

He said: "The hardest part of any footballer is U18s to the first team, which is why we’ve brought on the U21s. What we do at this club is a multi-functional approach.

"We have regular technical meetings and a development plan. We make educated decisions on them all. There’s no rush. When they’re ready they’re ready.

"League Two is an unforgiving place. It’s nice to know that we’ve got some players coming in over the next few years. Everything has to start with hard work and graft.

"If you’re training with the first-team you’ve got to train at least as hard as them, if not harder."
