It has been a turbulent season for most connected with Hayes & Yeading and Jack Mills has found it the strangest of his career.

The 21-year-old has not only found himself playing all over the park, but has also seen a high number of players transfer in and out at United this season.

Although it is common for players to come and go at this level, Hayes & Yeading have seen a higher than usual player turnover throughout the campaign.

More than 60 players have swept through the doors at Kingfield, with Mills one of only a few survivors from the start of the season.

United have flirted with relegation, perhaps in part due to the instability on the field, but there has been improvement in recent weeks.

A vital win over Dorchester Town on Saturday saw Phil Babb’s side move four places clear of the drop zone.

And while Mills admits the constant changes have come as a shock to him, the former Staines utility man says the team have come to terms with the reality of the situation.

“I’ve never been at a club where there have been as many ins and outs as there have been at Hayes this year,” he said.

“But that’s not affected us recently. I think we have a good bunch here at the moment and I think we’ll do alright.

“If we keep the squad we have now we’ll do well next year.

“I think we can definitely progress next season.”

Although Mills signed on as a midfielder, he has seen himself play nearly everywhere for Babb’s United, most recently on the right side of defence, a position he is happy to fill for the team.

“Who knows what my best position is? I don’t even know myself,” joked the versatile 21-year-old.

“I just hope to keep playing well wherever I am, as long as I’m playing every week.

“I don’t mind playing left-back, midfield or up front.

“I am enjoying playing at right-back at the moment because I get forward a lot more, but I’ll play wherever.”
