Mikele Leigertwood will miss QPR's big night out at Old Trafford in the Carling Cup after having his red card appeal rejected.

To make matters worse, he has had his ban extended to a fourth game for failing to win the appeal and will also miss the three league games coming up against Ipswich, Cardiff, and Burnley.

The midfielder was dismissed by rookie ref Steve Atwell for a raised foot on Birmingham City's Lee Carsley towards the end of Tuesday night's 1-0 win at Loftus Road.

A red card for serious foul play carries an automatic punishment of three games and Rangers felt the decision was harsh, particularly as it meant he would miss Rangers' cup trip to Man United. But the FA have thrown out the bid to have the red card overturned.
