Toumani Diagouraga insists he must do his talking on the pitch to earn another Brentford contract.

The Bees midfielder's current deal expires at the end of the season and the club are yet to discuss new terms.

However, Diagouraga, who has made 180 appearances during his four-and-a-half-year stay at Griffin Park, admits it's up to him to force the issue.

Bit part: Diagouraga has been restricted to a handful of appearances this term

He said: "It’s a little bit of a concern. You think about it now and then especially having kids but, at the end of the day, if I train hard, play well I’m sure the rest will take care of itself.

"I haven’t spoken to anyone about it. Anything can happen in football. I’m sure if I get the chance and put in a good performance then I’m sure I’ll be okay.

"All you have to do, whenever you get the nod, even if it’s five or 10 minutes or half an hour, you have to give your best in every game and take it from there.

Up for the challenge: Diagouraga is determined to prove his worth

"I’ve been here four years. It’s good to be here. I enjoy it here so hopefully I can stay here longer."

Diagouraga is one of the longest-serving players in the squad, along with Kevin O'Connor and Sam Saunders.

And the Parisian admits the club is unrecognisable to the one he joined, initially on loan, in January 2010.

He added: "It’s changed a lot. When I first came it was nothing like this. I didn’t expect the club to be in this position.

Stalwart: Diagouraga is one of Brentford's longest-serving players

"We’ve been doing a very good job on and off the pitch to make sure the club keeps going forward.

"We were mid-table in League One when I came. The transformation at the club has been incredible. It’s great to be a part of it, to be here and witness it is very good.

"The whole club seems to be moving forward at a very good pace. We’ve got a new stadium coming. Everything is going very well. It’ll be hard to stop."
