Middlesbrough manager Garry Monk says he knew he was in for a tough test following yesterday's 2-2 draw with Brentford at the Riverside.

The recently-relegate side were favourites going into the game, but Monk, who spoke of respect for his former colleague Dean Smith, said that he was ready for a difficult game against "a very good side".

Speaking after the game, he said: "We played a very good side, very similar to Fulham in their approach so they were always going to have their moments in the game so we have to understand that.

"I respect Deano a lot. We had two extremely tough games against Brentford last season so I knew exactly what was coming, trained for that and put it there, but it's more about what we're doing in this period."
