Sascha Riether says Rene Meulensteen has restored the confidence in Fulham's struggling squad following their 2-0 win against Aston Villa.

The Cottagers ended a nightmare run of seven-straight defeats with a 2-0 victory over Paul Lambert's side on Sunday, thanks to goals from Steve Sidwell and Dimitar Berbatov.

It was Fulham's second impressive display in as many games since Meulensteen took over from Martin Jol, who was axed after two-and-a-half years in charge.

"When he speaks to the team it's very good and motivating," Riether said of Meulensteen's impact. "You can see on the pitch that everyone is fighting for eachother.

"He has changed different things. We as players have reacted on the pitch. If you are not a team you will nothing, which is why we got the three points [against Villa].

"Football is in the head - it's not easy if you lose six or seven games in a row. We've got an old, experienced team, so you've got to handle it."

Berbatov has recovered his best form under Meulensteen, who worked with the striker at Manchester United.

However, the Bulgarian's agent revealed last week that the frontman wants to quit the club in January.

"He's our best player, no doubt," added Riether.

"We need him to come out of this situation and I hope he will work for the team like he's done in the past week."
