It might  be the season of good will towards men – but Wealdstone’s Scott McGleish has vowed to heap Boxing Day misery on the club who recently rejected his managerial advances.

The Ex-Wycombe star could have been plotting the downfall of the stones in Thursday’s clash with Enfield had he been successful in landing the vacancy at Donkey Lane last month.

However, the minute he was overlooked for what would have been his first dip into management in favour of the more experienced George Borg, the veteran striker promised Town Chairman Paul Millington the decision would come back to haunt him with the Christmas Turkey barely digested.

He said: “The chairman rang me to say sorry you haven’t got it, you were very unlucky blah, blah blah, so I told him ‘you know now on Boxing Day I’m going to put one over on you,’ and his reply was ‘no doubt’ – so he has been warned.

Having put the experience behind him, McGleish, who will turn 40 in February, gave the strongest of hints he will see out the promotion push with stones before turning his attention to another pitch in the management market.

He added: “I probably would not have gone for other jobs. It was just this one felt right for me because I knew a bit about the club from playing there last year and I was already trying to help Steve Newing get players in before he got sacked.

“At the moment I have got no thoughts of leaving Wealdstone to go and manage elsewhere it was just at the time Enfield felt the right match and right club for me.

“It’s a case of nothing ventured nothing gained I suppose, but in hindsight it might prove to be a good thing I didn’t get it.”
