Scott McCubbin is hoping there will be room for him in Gordon Bartlett’s Wealdstone squad for the adventure ahead in the Conference South.

The versatile midfielder-cum-full-back proved a pivotal part of the Stones’ final push for the league title sealed among memorable scenes at Margate last Tuesday.

The ex-Burton ace has experience above Conference level football during his time with the Brewers and wants another taste of the game at that level.

However, with no news yet on what promises to be tweaking of the squad at least this summer, McCubbin can only wait and see if he makes the cut.

“You might have to ask Gordon about me playing in the Conference South, but in my own mind it leaves me really excited and looking forward to a new challenge,” he said.

“I’ve played in the Conference a little bit for Burton, where I had a few appearances for those guys and we had some good experiences against Conference and Conference South sides when we went on the FA Trophy run two years ago.

“So we know we are more than capable and I personally feel I’m more than able to give a good account of myself at that level, but it would be good to test it for a sustained period of time over a whole season.

“All things willing, if Gordon is prepared to keep me on and I can manage the work-life balance to give me enough time to commit to it, then I’ll give it a good shot.”

Post-title celebrations fell a little flat over the Easter weekend with Stones suffering successive defeats to Kingstonian and Billericay.

They will hope to end on a high at home to Canvey Island on Saturday, where the team will be presented with the Ryman League trophy.
