Neal Ardley is set to throw Matt Tubbs straight back into the AFC Wimbledon starting line-up for Saturday’s trip to Newport.

The Dons striker sat out the weekend win over Morecambe through suspension after picking up two bookings and a red card in the previous game against Burton.

Tubbs scored in that game before getting his marching orders and was in red-hot form prior to his suspension.

He will link up with big strike partner Bayo Akinfenwa, who has started to click into gear himself, while Jake Nicholson is also expected to return to the squad.

However, Wimbledon’s injury problems lie further back.

Andy Frampton was set to make a comeback against the Exiles following a lengthy spell out recovering from a broken ankle.

But the Dons defender has aggravated the problem this week and Adam Barrett and skipper Alan Bennett are likely to continue as a pair in the heart of the backline.

Expecting a tough test: AFC Wimbledon manager Neal Ardley

“Andy suffered a bit of a mishap when he was walking to the training ground today,” boss Ardley told Dons Player.

“He trod on an uneven bit of ground and really felt his ankle. He is very upset and he will probably be a doubt for Saturday.”

Injury-hit Newport County will assess Aaron Collins, Mike Flynn, Ryan Jackson and Ismail Yakubu ahead of the clash at Rodney Parade.

Despite their lengthy treatment table queue, Justin Edinburgh’s men are in good form after a slow start in League Two.

Returning Wimbledon hitman Tubbs is raring to go and looking to take advantage of the Exiles’ injury woes.

“It was disappointing for me to miss out against Morecambe,” he told Dons Player.

“It was really pleasing that we got the three points, but I was frustrated not to be involved. As a striker when you are scoring goals you want to carry on the momentum and not miss games.

“Even missing one game was tough, but I’m looking at it positively now as a recovery weekend for me. I have no knocks or fatigue and there are no excuses because I’m 100 per cent ready."
