Matt Ingram won’t have to travel far tonight as he continues to battle Alex Smithies for possession of the QPR gloves.
The goalkeeper made 142 appearances in his 10 years at Wycombe and still lives in Buckinghamshire.
The 22-year-old is currently locked in a pre-season battle with Smithies for the No. 1 shirt ahead of his team’s first league fixture against Leeds.
He told the club’s website: “Alex (Smithies) has come back and looked really sharp and it’s a good battle for the jersey at the moment.
“We are all encouraging each other and pushing each other as we all want to be the best we can be and there’s no better way of improving then having competition.”
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s team will play the Chairboys at Adams Park tonight in their fifth pre-season match, which agreed as was part of the deal when Ingram signed for the Rs earlier this year.
Ingram added: “It will be very strange walking into the visitors’ dressing room after spending a good number of years working in the home one, but I’m looking forward to it.”
Tuesday’s draw at Northampton saw nine players feature for the full 90 minutes and Ingram admits he’d like to get a win against his old club this evening but the performance is still the key factor at this stage.
He said: “You go into every game wanting to win but the aim is to get a good performance and hopefully the result should follow but a performance is what we’re looking for.”
New Hoops signings midfielder Jordan Cousins, who made his debut against Northampton, and defenders Joel Lynch and Jake Bidwell will be hoping to make a difference.
However, Ariel Borysiuk is injured and faces six weeks on the sidelines.
The Chairboys, managed by former Hoop Gareth Ainsworth, finished 13th in League Two last season after looking at play-off contention in March but failed to win their last eight fixtures or the season.
Wycombe have also brought in bulking striker Adebayo Akinfenwa to help boost their chances of promotion going into the new campaign.
They have also signed Dayle Southwell from Boston United, Paris Cowan-Hall on loan from Millwall and former Southend winger Myles Weston.
Ainsworth’s side have played out two 1-1 draws so far in this pre-season against Brentford and French Ligue 2 side Le Havre AC.
