Barnet 2-0 Gateshead

Mauro Vilhete was the hero as Barnet secured the Conference Premier title and ended their two year exile out of the Football League.

The forward headed home Sam Togwell's free kick on 26 minutes to calm any nerves after Bristol Rovers took the lead against Alfreton.

With the Pirates 3-0 up, the Bees needed another goal and he was on hand to fire home five minutes into the second half.

Curtis Weston went close on several occasions in the opening exchanges and should have scored after six minutes with the goal gaping.

There was certain to be twists and turns on the final day as Jake Gosling gave Bristol Rovers the lead on 20 minutes to take over at the top of the table and The Hive became a nervy place as Gateshead came back into the contest.

But Vilhete calmed those nerves as he guided Togwell's free-kick past Adam Bartlett in the Gateshead goal to give the Bees the lead.

The forward could have given John Akinde a tap-in but overhit his cross leaving the hotshot striker high and dry.

Bristol Rovers scored twice more before half-time to give them a 3-0 lead, increasing the nerves at The Hive as Barnet needed a goal to relax.

Certainly that was the feeling of Martin Allen, who was yelling at his troops to 'score again'.

They did four minutes into the second half a s a corner wasn't properly cleared by the Heed and Vilhete fired home to raise the roof.

Rovers were comfortable 7-0 winners but it mattered little as Barnet comfortably ran down the clock to secure the title and spark a wild pitch invasion.
