Fulham defender Dan Burn reckons dealing with Manchester United's constant aerial bombardment on Sunday took him back to his non-league days.

Steve Sidwell opened the scoring for the Whites at Old Trafford and the Red Devils responded by peppering the Fulham penalty area with crosses.

Just about the only United player not to swing in a delivery was goalkeeper David De Gea, with more than 80 balls sent in by the champions.

Fulham's defence, led by Burn, dealt with the crosses superbly but there was no stopping the Red Devils.

Robin van Persie showed his predatory instincts to level the score and Michael Carrick made it 2-1 before Darren Bent salvaged a dramatic draw with a last-gasp leveller.

It was nothing more than the Whites deserved for a brave performance at the back, which Burn says reminded him of his time in the Conference with Darlington.

"We're chuffed," he said. "The lads are absolutely buzzing. I think we needed that. We've been on a bad run of form. We knew that we needed to put in a really good performance and we've shown there is still a lot of fight in there.

"I was just saying to the lads that I've never headed that many balls since the Conference. At the end of the day I'm happy for them to play like that. We knew that we were going to defend our box well.

"We were going to keep our back four quite narrow so that we were between the goal and the wingers were going to look after the wide men. We've been working on that in training. I thought it worked well.

"They've had plenty of crosses, loads of chances and stuff but the second goal was quite lucky. I always felt we had something left."

It was a shock result for Fulham, holding the Red Devils in their own back yard, although last year's champions are well of the pace this term.

Burn is at a loss to explain the problems with David Moyes' team but will always respect them for the trophies they have amassed over the years.

"I don't really know to be honest," Burn said of the problems at Old Trafford. "I haven't played many games so I couldn't tell you. It's the first time I've played against Man U.

"It's still a massive club and the players they've got there. They know that they should be doing better themselves. I'm just pleased we've come away with a good result."
