Charlie MacDonald has vowed to kick-start his career at Brentford.

The 27-year-old striker became Andy Scott's eighth summer signing when he joined from the Shrimpers for an undisclosed fee last week.

MacDonald made just 15 starts for the Shrimpers, and was deemed surplus to requirements by Blues boss Steve Tilson after one season at Roots Hall.

He said: "I was very disappointed with my time at Southend. I don't think I was given enough game time.

"I scored five goals in 15 starts, which is a pretty good return, but for some reason I wasn't picked.

"But coming here is a chance for me to push on again, and hopefully play first-team football week in, week out.

"I'm confident I can score goals at this level."
