Charlie MacDonald has refused to blame Talksport for making insinuations about his goal celebration on Sunday - leading to him phoning into the radio show to put it right.

MacDonald put his arms in an X-sign after netting at Havant & Waterlooville, as a gesture to his son who is a big fan of ITV show The X-Factor.

But, coming the day after Ipswich's David Norris was condemned for a similar handcuff-style celebration in support of jailed mate Luke McCormick - who was jailed for killing two young boys while drink driving - Talksport put two and two together and got five.

But MacDonald said: "It was personal thing between me and my little boy, and such a coincidence it happened on the same weekend as what the Ipswich guy done, which is something I'd never condone.

"I was annoyed at having to phone in to put things right, but I could see how it could be misconstrued so I wasn't too angry.

"I wanted to clear my name straight away as I didn't want to be tarred with the same brush, and Talksport asked the questions they needed to ask.

"But when I next score, I think I'll leave it at a smile."
