Luck has run out for QPR – but they had better find more in the next month, warns Richard Dunne.

The central defender was left as frustrated as 3,200 fans in a Valley of despair on Saturday.

And if Rangers are to keep automatic promotion hopes alive they need to gobble up chances like those squandered on the worst pitch the Irish international has ever encountered.

Charlton captain Johnnie Jackson rose at the back post to head home in the 92nd minute and pile the pressure on a side with just a single point from the last four games.

“Things haven’t got on our way, and maybe whatever luck we were having at the start of the season has run out,” said Dunne.

“I think we passed the ball well considering the state of the pitch. Maybe on another day the chances we got would have been easier to convert.

“The surface was terrible, it wasn’t up to standard, but it was the same for both teams.”

Dunne reckons the next month could decide the top two positions, and sympathises with supporters who feel short changed by recent results.

He added: “I can understand fans wanting us to get the ball forward over the last few weeks. But the games have been getting stretched and we’ve been wide open at the back.

"We’ve got to find a balance and maybe be a bit sharper going forward.

“Maybe on Saturday against Leeds our luck will change. Everyone’s down a bit at the moment, but you have to put it at the back of your mind although it’s fair to say time will run out on us (as far as the top two positions are concerned) and we'll need to look at it again in the next month.”
