Bobby Zamora was disappointed with Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Southampton but insists QPR took plenty of positives away from the south coast.

The striker was a second-half substitute at St Mary’s as Graziano Pelle volleyed home a spectacular winner after Charlie Austin’s stunner had put the R’s back on level terms.

Niko Kranjcar came close to snatching a late leveller but cruelly saw his excellent free-kick come crashing back off the crossbar in the final few minutes of the game.

It is QPR’s third straight Premier League defeat on the road but represents a vast improvement on the 4-0 drubbings at the hands of Tottenham and Manchester United.

Zamora thinks the team shouldn’t feel too disheartened by their day’s work against a Saints side just three points shy of Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea at the top of the table.

“They are doing very well this season,” Zamora said.

“It’s not an easy place to come but we feel we probably should have had something out of it. It was a great goal by Charlie but then it was also a great equaliser by them.

“You take your hat off to a great finish but overall not a bad performance by us. There’s positives we can take out of it.

“The Premier League is the Premier League and it’s full of great players.

“We’re pleased with how the performance went but obviously not the result. So we take that and move onto next week now.”

Rangers manager Harry Redknapp was also able to take away some positives from the defeat against his old club, although he admits Loic Remy’s departure leaves him short of options.

“I thought Bobby [Zamora] was excellent when he came on, held up the ball well, but we are short and we don't have an awful lot of striking options,” said Redknapp.

“We have lost 16 goals when Remy went. It is a problem: you look at last year and Charlie [Austin] got 17 goals and no one else got anywhere near.”

Remy joined Chelsea during the summer transfer window but is playing second fiddle to Diego Costa at Stamford Bridge this season.

Next up for QPR is a trip to West Ham this weekend as they look for that elusive first three points on the road.
