AFC Wimbledon will be quick out of the blocks again this season if history is anything to go by.

The Dons generally fare pretty well on the opening day of the campaign and Neal Ardley will hope it's no different this time around on August 9.

Wimbledon tasted victory in their first-ever competitive game under their new guise back in 2002 when they triumphed 2-1 at Sandhurst Town in the Combined Counties League.

After a string of promotions, the Dons drew 1-1 with Luton Town in their first season in the Conference seven years later, before going one better at Southport the following season as they won the play-offs.

Things didn't go to plan on their return to the Football League, losing a five-goal thriller at home to Bristol Rovers.

However, the Dons responded and edged out Chesterfield 1-0 in the 2012/13 curtain-raiser.

Wimbledon got off to an impressive start last campaign, winning four of their opening six games after a deserved draw at Torquay on day one.

Meanwhile, Ardley's men have been drawn away to MK Dons in the first round of the Capital One Cup.
