Thousands of drivers on the A40 will soon know when Hanwell Town have a game on.

The club launched a £100,000 bid this week to make the non-league big time, much of which will come from a massive digital poster on the main artery into London from the west, which is next to the club’s base in Perivale, next to the A40.

The money has come from a number of supporters and well-wishers for the club, known as the Geordies because of their black-and-white Newcastle-like striped shirts.

Hanwell escaped relegation from Southern One Central last season by the skin of their teeth.

But from the phoenix of a disastrous campaign, ambitious plans are in motion.

New recruits: Hanwell boss Ray Duffy

Boss Ray Duffy has already signed players previously with Chelsea and Brentford, who will play on renovated pitches nurtured by former Wembley Stadium head groundsman Steve Tingley.

Work starts in July on a revamp of the clubhouse at Reynolds Field that will include a new bar and kitchen. Hanwell have also secured a three-year kit deal with giants Adidas and Prokit UK.

Additional income will come from the state-of-the-art LED 3.5m x 2.5m advertising screen, starting next month, with rolling adverts and a slot to advertise Hanwell fixtures.

President David Iddiols said: “We are building a solid foundation here at the club, which will enhance the experience of our spectators and benefit the local community. The youth set up at Hanwell Town is now the strongest it’s ever been with 25 teams now competing at all age groups within the borough.

Revamp: Reynolds Field

Hanwell Town Football Club certainly have big ambitions, it just needs the local community to show their support next season.”

  • The non-league pyramid has thrown up four new teams for Southern Central One next season that include 2008 FA Cup giantkillers Histon.

Eight years ago the Cambridgeshire club beat Swindon and famously Leeds, before exiting in the third round to Swansea City.

They, along with Kidlington, Ashford Town (Middlesex) and one of only two clubs to enter every FA Cup since the first in 1872 – Marlow – are new to Hanwell next term.

  • The Geordies also announced a string of pre-season away friendlies including neighbours London Tigers on July 2.

Then it is a visit to Hadley on July 16 followed by a run-out at another neighbour, North Greenford United, on July 26.
