Martin Allen was in his usual bullish mood after Barnet were beaten by Leyton Orient. Here are the key points from the Bees' manager's press conference.

Barnet played well

"It was an excellent game. We really acquitted ourselves well. We had three or four good chances in the first half - which you’d like to think if they had gone in it would’ve been a different result."

Proud day for the club and manager

Barnet's Curtis Weston in action with Leyton Orient's Dean Cox

"Overall, it’s a massive step up from 16 months ago when I first got to Barnet, when we were outside the play-off positions to where we’ve got to today. It’s kind of a proud day.

"It’s a very proud day for me. Some of these players have been with me here from the beginning and to see them out there in front of a great crowd, playing against some good Orient players on this stage is what we aimed for 16 months ago."

Orient will finish in the top seven

"On another day, if those chances had gone in, we’d have won that game. And that’s probably against a team that I’d imagine is going to finish in the top four, definitely the play-offs. It was a great test for us today."

Allen has no season target

"I haven’t got any aims for the season. My next aim is to take the group to Millwall on Tuesday and it really is a game at a time, at the moment.

"We need to fathom out the opposition - their strengths and their weaknesses. And of course we have a few little games to get out of the way first, and then it will all evolve as it does.

"You have to remember this Orient team and the buzz around this place - they were in the play-off final to go up to the Championship. There are some quality players here, it was great to challenge it."

No more additions

"I didn’t know there was a window? We’ve got 19 players, that’s it. We’ve only got 19 - but Wycombe got in the play-off final with 18. Don’t need that many players - these players are good players, these players will win games.

"As you’ve seen in the first half, they can win games - and they will win games."
