A more fluid style of football is needed from Hayes & Yeading in this weekend’s clash with Basingstoke Town.

United are on a run of five straight defeats and are looking for their first home victory since the December 7 triumph over Tonbridge Angels.

The manner of their latest loss, a 2-0 reverse to Bath City on Tuesday, infuriated assistant manager Tristan Lewis and the United coach is demanding an improvement on Saturday.

He said: “The style of play I witnessed tonight was more suited to a rugby pitch. The players decided to play long-ball, rugby-style football, and that’s not what they were asked to do.

“I don’t want to watch football like that and I certainly wouldn’t want to pay to watch it so it wouldn’t surprise me if the supporters are disgusted by football like that, I am too.”

The games are coming thick and fast now and United follow Saturday’s visit of Basingstoke with another home match against promotion hopefuls Sutton in midweek.
