Leroy Fer's silver lining when Holland failed to qualify for Euros 2016 became instantly clear - it meant the QPR forward has only one master this season.

The Dutchman would have been a contender in orange next summer, but now that hope is dashed, Fer just wants to nail a permanent spot in Rangers starting XI starting at Brentford tomorrow night in the massive west London derby.

It’s been a rocky road for both his country and the man who cost £8million in summer 2014.

Problem: Leroy Fer at Sunderland in February

He failed a medical at Sunderland in August to go with another rejection at Everton in January 2013, but Fer insists he’s back to his best - even if he has been only a playing sub for the last two games.

He said: “The coach makes his decision so when I come on I try to give 100 per cent.

“Yeah, I was disappointed not to go to Sunderland, but that’s a closed book now. I’m here now and trying to get QPR promoted. If I was going (to Sunderland) I was going on loan, so I was always going to be a QPR player.

“Holland are out of the Euros and that’s a massive disappointment for us, but now I can focus on just getting QPR promoted.”

Fer wanted to always play in the centre rather than wide on the left, and under Chris Ramsey’s he finally got his wish.

The big one: QPR take on Brentford

“The gaffer knows my ability and he plays me off the striker and that’s one of the best positions for me,” he said.

“We are one of the best teams in this league but we need to show it, but until MK Dons, we weren’t at our best - and the fans see that and we want to give them three points, but things sometimes don’t go our way."

They did against Dons last Saturday, with a 3-0 win to show for it, but Fer is only too aware a simmering Rangers following demands more of the same at Griffin Park.

“What we did against MK Dons we have to do against Brentford," he added.

“(Defender) Clint Hill has been a massive, massive player for us over the last two games - and we have two clean sheets to show for it.”
