Frank Lampard has conceded that he may now be playing his final season in English football.

The Chelsea record scorer, who netted his 206th and 207th goals for the Blues against former club West Ham at the weekend, says he has no interest in outstaying his welcome, and does not want to stick about just to sit on the bench.

The 35-year-old, who excelled at Upton Park in a more advanced position than in the last year or so, says he hopes to play on – but cannot expect to do so.

Asked if he was looking beyond this season, the Chelsea number eight, said: “No, I don’t any more. It is season by season for me.

“I feel fit and strong. I am enjoying playing pretty regularly at the minute and if I can show that I am good enough to carry on playing then I will try to do that.

“Having been at Chelsea for 13 years now, I can’t quite see myself playing in the Premier League anywhere else. Anywhere in England really.

“If I can keep contributing here... I don’t want to be a passenger, sitting on the bench and not doing much, even in my older years. So, as I said, I will take it year by year.”
