Lasse Vibe hopes his time in Brazil with the Danish Olympic team will have the same effect as his spell with the national team in March.

The Brentford star struggled in the first two months of 2016 as he battled fatigue but he returned from international duty a refreshed and much better player.

And he hopes that he can replicate it when he eventually returns from the greatest show on earth.

He said: “Hopefully it’s the same as March. If you go with the national team, you feel a better player. You meet up with great players.

“In March I had to adapt to Christian Eriksen’s level. We’ve got other great players. Even just from training, you try to bring that level into your club team and I managed to do that.

“Before I went away I was having a hard time so it was a break. Hopefully the Olympics can do the same and I’ll come back flying into the new season.”

Vibe was, naturally, honoured to be called up to the squad for the tournament and jumped at the chance straight away, unlike certain golfers and tennis players who refused to go due to the Zika virus.

He added: “It’s a big honour. I know that football at the Olympics is probably not the biggest thing but I’m going to the Olympics and that’s a huge thing for me.

“Representing your country is always a big thing. We’re playing some great teams and countries but you’re missing games for your club.

International pal: Christian Eriksen of Tottenham Hotspur

“I said yes straight away. It was more whether you’re going to get permission to go. I’ve got no problem that I’m probably not the first choice but I’m going anyway.”

Vibe feels refreshed after having his first break in 14 months but now needs to build up match fitness, which he didn’t have to do last summer, although he hopes he’ll feel the benefits in February 2017.

He explained: “It’s good. I’ve had a break for the first time in a while. We were working really hard.

“I was in a bit later than the other guys due to my international duty. I managed to get a break and hopefully I can build up to 100 per cent.

“I do feel much fresher and much more rested but, on the other side, I was 100 per cent playing 90 minutes.

“I came straight back from European qualification games in midweek and league games at the weekend.

“I’m not 100 per cent yet. I haven’t played 90 minutes. If you compare those two levels I would say I was better when I came but I hope the break will mean when we reach February and March I’ll be fresher than last year.”
