Calum Kitscha enjoyed his taste of the international scene with England C but insists his priority remains helping Hayes & Yeading improve on last season’s poor showing.

Kitscha became only the second United player to get a call up to the national non-league side when Three Lions boss Paul Fairclough named him in his squad to train at St George’s Park.

Kitscha went up to the national football centre in Burton for two days ahead of England’s forthcoming clash with Turkey, following in the footsteps of former H&Y favourite Tom Cadmore, who is the club’s only other previous representative.

He said: “The facilities were second to none. Everything about it was brilliant and I really enjoyed the whole experience. If I never go back again, at least I can say I’ve been there, done it and played well there.

“I always set myself aims at the start of the season, and one of them is to play every game for Hayes.

“If I do get the call up it’s a bonus, but my priority is Hayes.”

However, Kitscha was unable to prevent Hayes & Yeading exiting the FA Cup at the second qualifying round on Sunday as they were beaten 1-0 by St Albans at York Road, watched by England C chief Fairclough.

And while the young keeper could not keep out the Saints at the weekend, he believes H&Y manager Phil Babb is close to finding the correct formula.

“We’ve got a good squad and the atmosphere around the club is good,” he added.

“We’ve got a much more experienced side this year and the players have the ability to dig in and get results as we’ve seen in previous weeks. We just need that click, but it isn’t there at the moment.”

Kitscha’s international recognition has increased Babb’s urgency to tie down his star to a contract at York Road.

The H&Y chief said: “The stock has risen in Calum and more clubs will be after him sooner rather than later. We are worried about losing him and have held talks at times to sign a contract with the club.”

Elsewhere, in the FA Cup, Uxbridge were beaten 5-1 at Bromley and Wealdstone were held to a 1-1 draw by Concord Rangers.

Better news came from AFC Hayes as Ricardo Faux-James and Tobi Akinjirin struck to seal a 2-0 win over Daventry Town, while Michael Murray was on target in a 3-1 loss for Northwood at home to Hanwell Town.

There were good wins for Spartan South Midlands Premier pair Hillingdon Borough and Harefield United against Holmer Green and Cockfosters respectively.
