Kit Symons will hold talks with Shahid Khan today as he tries to convince the Fulham owner he’s the man to lead their revival.

The 43-year-old was handed the reins last week after Khan pulled the trigger on Felix Magath following a disastrous start to the season.

Symons was unable to the prevent the 10-man Cottagers slipping to defeat against Blackburn on Saturday, but will get another chance to stake a claim in the Capital One Cup clash with Doncaster tomorrow night.

And the club's U21s boss will make a case to Khan and chief executive Alistair Mackintosh during discussions with the Fulham hierarchy.

"I’ve told the world and his wife that I want it but I fully expect and want the owner to pick the right person for the job," said Symons, who faces competition from Chris Hughton and Steve Clarke for the hotseat.

"He’ll search far and wide to find that person but hopefully he’s right under his nose and that’s me.

"Everyone has been so positive. The people that work at the club, the supporters, the players everyone’s been brilliant.

"To know you’ve got that many people behind you, to me personally gives a huge boost and with that kind of support you can’t fail but start working your way up the league."

Man at the top: Fulham owner Shahid Khan

Magath was blasted by some of his former players for his gruelling training regime during his ill-fated time at Craven Cottage.

But Symons added: "What’s happened previously is not my concern now, it’s where we go from here.

"There will be an awful lot of ball work. Everything will be ball work and will be linked in with how I want the team to play."
