David Button will look back on Brentford’s Championship campaign with regret if the club fails to book a play-off spot next weekend.

Alan Judge and James Tarkowski were on target to beat Reading at the Madejski Stadium and keep the dream alive going into the final round of fixtures.

Mark Warburton's side are seventh in the table on 75 points, just two behind sixth-placed Derby and three behind fifth-placed Ipswich Town.

Brentford must beat Wigan to stand any chance of making the end-of-season lottery and rely on Derby losing to the Royals or Ipswich going down at Blackburn, where goal difference could also come into play.

It has been a hugely impressive season from the Bees following promotion to the English second tier, however goalkeeper Button admits it will be hard to take the positives if it all ends in heartbreak.

He said: “It’s going to be an exciting final day.

Royals action: James Tarkowski and David Button deny Simon Cox

“It was a great victory for us today and it keeps the pressure on them going into next weekend.

“It’s been a good season for us but if we do miss out then we’ll look back on it with a few regrets as well.

“We’ve known since the start of the season what we’ve got in that dressing room and how good we are and if we don’t make the play-offs at this point we’ll see it as a bit of a failure.

“We’ll just concentrate on beating Wigan next week and have to see what happens. As long as I do my job then I’ll be happy.”

Button has made 46 appearances between the sticks for Brentford this term and picked up five bookings, the latest coming at the weekend for time-wasting against Reading.
