Jota is ready for Brentford's Championship season to begin after the Bees rounded off their pre-season campaign with a 2-1 victory over Celta Vigo.

The Bees have been unbeaten over the course of their warm-up games and now face their first real test when they travel to Sheffield United this weekend.

And the wing wizard, who has been the subject of intense speculation this summer with West Ham, Burnley, Everton among others interested, is relishing the new campaign.

He told the club's official website: “I feel good, I have been working throughout pre-season and I feel very well.”

Jota and Sergi Canos

Jota found the net with a sublime free kick, making it 2-0 after Lasse Vibe's opener, and he dazzled the Celta Vigo defence on a wet and slick Griffin Park surface.

“It’s always good to score,” he laughed. “These games are for work and for preparation ahead of the season. I’m happy with this pre-season, I’ve worked hard and I feel fine.

“I like playing in the rain [like today], because it’s easy to move the ball and for the attackers it makes it easy to pass and move. This is London weather and throughout the year it gets like this so we have to stay focused on the games.”

John Guidetti pulled a goal back in the second half but the Bees held on to claim the win that sends them to Sheffield United high on confidence.

“I think we played very well,” said Jota. “Celta is a big team and they played very well but I think we had more intensity and we were very focused on the game.

“I think it was a great win before the season and everyone did a great job.”
