Jose Mourinho was pleased to see his Chelsea side put their recent woes behind them against Maccabi Tel Aviv but admits he’s got a long way to go before he is fully satisfied.

Chelsea crushed their Group G opponents 4-0 at Stamford Bridge to top the table after matchday one ahead of Dynamo Kyiv and Porto.

They had been on their worst start to a season since 1986 in the lead up to this game though and the Special One told BT Sport he was happy with the outcome.

Mourinho said: “I’m happy with the result, the performance, but in the same way I was not in hell with bad results, I’m not in heaven now with a good result

“It was good to test the team who were in a negative moment by missing a penalty. You must be really strong to believe and I think the players showed a good attitude.

“To start the group phase with three points is not crucial but it is important.

Chelsea's win over Maccabi Tel Aviv in pictures:

“Good individual performances help the players with their self-esteem and confidence and we had lots of good individual performances.

“I know some experts will say Maccabi is not a top team but they are a Champions League team. You need to play in we were good in different phases of the game.

“They could have scored one or two goals. Overall, I think we played well and our reaction was a very good collective reaction. It was important. A win is a win and that feeling will help our team.

“The most important thing was to win. If some players have good individual performances that is good for them. The only negative thing is Willian’s injury.

“I never have headaches. I try to have the best selections for the team.”

Chelsea are back in Premier League action this coming weekend when they entertain Arsenal at Stamford Bridge in the lunchtime kick-off.
